It’s that time again! Our first Sub of the Month for 2020 is Rick Yarbrough. Rick has been subbing using Tagg for over a year and continues to serve our partner schools on a weekly basis. We connected with Rick to ask him what he loves most about substitute teaching. Check out what he had to say below!
Tell us a bit about yourself!
I was a pastor for 35 years in Michigan before moving to Colorado Springs in the fall of 2018 to be near our grandchildren. My wife was our children and family pastor so we did a lot of teaching together, including summer camps and helping at-risk students.
Why did you decide to try substitute teaching?
I started subbing when I got to Colorado Springs while looking for full-time employment. I got a job delivering for Amazon which allows me to still sub 2 days a week.
What do you love most about substitute teaching?
What I love about substitute teaching is being able to influence and inspire young lives – even if it is for only one day at a time. Doing a good job is also a huge blessing for the teacher. And on those days when the kids are really wound up I get to go back to work in my van and recuperate in peace and quiet.
