Tagg’s Sub of the Month for January is Courtney Mitchell! Check out our interview with James below to see what he loves about substitute teaching.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m a Virginia native, but have called Colorado home for twenty years. I’m fortunate to have taught preschool through college.

Why did you decide to try substitute teaching?

I truly feel called to teaching in the classroom, and subbing is the perfect fit for my family right now.

What do you love most about substitute teaching?

I get to love on kids of all ages and engage them in learning in a variety of ways that best fit their needs and the topic.

Do you have an favorite grades and subjects you like to teach and why?

I don’t have a favorite grade, but history and writing are topics I’m passionate to teach at any grade level!

If you had to give any advice to a new substitute teacher, what would it be?

Classroom management skills are foundational, and having a plan surrounding your approach is pivotal to creating a successful day.
