Substitute teacher smiles on green background

That’s right! It’s time to announce our September Tagg Sub of the Month. The first honoree of the 2019-2020 school year is Felicia Jones! Check out our short interview with Felicia below.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I am the wife of a retired military member, mother of 6 and the grandmother of 17 children.  I am retired from the army and civil service.  So needless to say I am a lover of people and travel.

Why did you decide to be a substitute teacher?

Honestly, because I could not find a job after retirement that I felt was meaningful. I adore children.  I am very big on children having excellent manners and most importantly being safe.  It is important that we as adults listen to our children and I am great at that.

What do you love most about substitute teaching?

Having the opportunity to make an impact, to teach respect and good manners, and to encourage someone who may not receive these lessons from home.

Do you have a favorite grade or subject you like to teach and why?

K-4, because they are so honest and so eager to learn.

If you had to give any advice to a new substitute teacher, what would it be?

Do it because you care! Because you love children and you want to make a difference in their lives because they are our future.
